Yes, I agree I've stayed away for longgggg! I can come up
with multippple excuses to explain my absence, but let me be honest, I was
missing on that one "inspiration" that will propel me to get back to
sharing it with you all.
So, what has gotten me back on everyone's radar? Well, my
muse this time is a Saree Gown!!! Simply put a no-fuss saree with the sheer
grace of a gown. (Yes, you know how much I looove gowns: http://hatsheelsandthelike.blogspot.in/2013/09/miss-world-download.html)
I still remember how I once said, "I hate (actually
detest) Indo-Western clothes!" Have gone lengths to express how it's best
to keep it either completely Indian, or completely western. Muddling these two
lines generally doesn't give the best of outcomes, was what I always believed
in.
But then, as they say, Never say Never! I was forced to eat
up my words when I first saw, and later (more importantly so as well) TRIED on a saree-gown (in case you're wondering where, in a Shapur Jat store)!
How I fell in love with the Grecian Goddes feel of a gown, pooled with the magnum opus of a saree!
Their USP; no need to bother about whether the 9-yard wonder
has been pinned and tucked in the right places or not. Have you ever prayed, “Oh dear Lord! If only
wearing a saree was so effortless”, well, you can be grateful to God, your
prayers have been answered.
So, who all have flaunted this masterpiece?
It all started in 1988 with the oh-so elegant and beautiful
Princess Diana flaunted a saree-inspired gown designed by Catherine Walker (a
French born, London based designer). Blame it on lack of paparazzi at that time;
it took decades for a revival of the trend.

Cut to the 21st century, the sensational head turner for every red carpet, Serena Van
der Woodesen, oops Blake Lively (haha..there is no cure for my Gossip Girl fixation!)
looked her absolute stunner in Karl Lagerfield (of Chanel house) saree gown.
You know you love me! Xoxo ;) |
Another stalwart in fashion specializing in high end women’s
wear Marchesa; also drew inspiration from this phenomenal amalgamation.
Back home here in India, Tarun Tahiliani got the trend back
on everyone’s radar and was followed by many.

This brings me to a very important question! Why am I not
seeing many of US flaunting this work of genius? If you’re of the same opinion
as me- “Everything in an Indian wedding has to be as TRADITIONAL as
possible", then go ahead and get one made for yourselves for a pre-wedding
cocktail, or engagement function. I mean aren’t those functions all about
reckless dancing! The saree gown will surely be your most valuable purchase for
the hours you will spend on the dance floor.
Let me know what you think about making the saree gown
famous this season! As always, remember to put your fashionable foot
forward!
